Many Iowans have made the trek east to watch Donald Trump become the 45th President of the United States.

Central College Political Science Professor Andrew Green and students Hannah Hirl and Andrew Brouwer are among a group of academics from over 60 colleges and universities in Washington D.C. for the Inauguration 2017 Academic Seminar. Green, Hirl, and Brouwer have been working at the program for 12 days.

Green tells KNIA/KRLS News historically, the inaugural address is an opportunity for the incoming administration to set the tone for the next four years.

“They’re calling it more of a philosophical speech, talking about the purpose of government and how big it should be, and not to expect any speech that talks about a political agenda for the first 100 days or the first year,” he says.

“I’m really interested in hearing the inaugural address, hearing what the president has to say about what the priorities are going to be as we move forward and what the guiding principles of the administration are going to be.”

Many others Iowans were welcomed to our nation’s capital with a special reception held by Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst earlier today.
