Knoxville Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News the district’s English Language Learners (ELL) program has expanded so much recently that more instruction is required to assist all the students.

She say the program is serving about 45 students this year, 18 of which have moved into the district since the beginning of school this year. The Knoxville School Board voted Monday night to expand the role of current ELL teacher Linda Fridlington from three-fourths time to full time for the remainder of the year. Pearson says if this trend continues the district will look into a more permanent solution.
