Playing a bit shorthanded due to illness, the Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad found a way to win against Clarke last night 61-49. The Panthers started slow falling behind by eight points but ended the first half on and 18-9 run to take a one point lead, then control the second half to win. Katie Keitges and Shaye Nichols each scored 22 points for the Panthers. Knoxville improves to 5-7 on the season and 4-3 in South Central Conference play. Knoxville hosts Carlisle this afternoon. The Knoxville Boys shook off a pesky Clarke in the second half to win 69-58. The Panthers broke out early with 19 first quarter points but could only muster four in the second quarter to hold a 23-20 lead at the break. Blake McClung keyed Knoxville’s second half as he dropped in 13 of his game high 17 points in the second half. Coach Jeff Larson was glad to see McClung come alive. Chase Larson contributed 16 points as the Panthers got to 8-2 on the season and 7-0 in South Central Conference action. The boys hit the road to the long-anticipated meeting with Cedar Rapids Xavier this afternoon.
