Another conference game, another nail-biter for the Pella Little Dutch boys. They edged out Oskaloosa on the road 55-54 in a game heard live as part of a doubleheader on 92.1 KRLS.

Fired up by a packed home gym, the Indians came out on fire before senior Jack Moore was tagged with three first-quarter fouls. From there, Pella took control behind 10 Ryan Van Wyk first-half points to extend to a seven-point lead into the break.

But the Indians weren’t done, and took a late 3rd quarter lead before Pella rallied back behind big shots from Nick Finney and Van Wyk to keep the Indians at bay despite a very close final four minutes.

Finney says while they’ve faced some adversity against different foes, his team has shown an ability to finish games late and come out with wins.

Pella was led by 25 from Van Wyk and 13 points from Finney. They move to 8-1 and 4-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Fresh off of their first loss of the season to a top-3 Class 5A team, the Pella Lady Dutch led wire-to-wire in their 69-34 rout of Oskaloosa. The Indians kept the game from getting completely out of hand until an 8-0 run by Ciara Buchheit with a pair of threes and a layup got Pella close to continuous clock near the end of the 3rd quarter. Buchheit had 22 points.

Head Coach Jerod Garland says it was a much-needed bounce back on a night they missed senior leader Kiara Bradley due to injury.

Pella’s girls are 9-1 and 5-0 in conference play. Both return home Friday night against a pair of conference contenders when the DCG Fillies and Mustangs come to the Tulip City.
