Glaze of ice covering Oskaloosa Street in Pella at 11:30 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions will worsen overnight as freezing rain passes through central Iowa.

Freezing precipitation will continue through the mid-morning hours, and a changeover to rain is expected by noon. Total accumulations are expected to top out at .25″ of ice.

Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt told KNIA/KRLS News most county roads were completely covered by ice late in the evening. Pella Public Works trucks were out on some of the main corridors, but most street had at least a glaze of ice of them as of midnight. Streets were reportedly glazed over in Knoxville as well.

The Marion County Road Department says that trucks and possibly motor graders will be out at 4:00 a.m. Icy conditions make it slow going for crews. Area law enforcement asks all drivers who have to be on the roads to be patient, allow extra time, slow down, eliminate distractions and drive with extreme caution.

The Iowa DOT reports that Highway 163 from Otley to Prairie City was completely covered as of midnight, as was Highway 14 from Monroe to Newton. Highway 5 west of Pleasantville and Highway 316 from Hwy 5 to Runnells were partially covered.
