Pella Christian’s girls used a big second half to beat Norwalk 66-50 last night on Eagle Lane, while the boys fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 58-43 setback in a doubleheader heard live on KRLS 2.

In the girls game, Norwalk took a two point lead after the first quarter, but Pella Christian clamped down defensively to take a slight four point lead into intermission.

Isabella Baugh and Morgan Fopma combined for 20 second-half post points as the Eagles pulled away in the second half.

Baugh finished the game with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Fopma was the leading scorer with 16 and added eight boards. Brooke Mitrisin and Emma Huisman were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Pella Christian improves to 12-5 overall and gets back to .500 in the Little Hawkeye Conference at 5-5.

The Eagle boys were playing without David Kacmarynski for the second consecutive game, and never found traction.

Norwalk led by three after the first quarter, and used a 10-0 run over the first 5:07 of the second quarter to take control. The Eagles never got closer than seven points for the rest of the game.

Kenden Veenstra’s 13 points paced PC, while Levi Jungling added 12.

The Eagles drop to 12-4 overall and 6-4 in the LHC. It’s their third straight conference loss, and third setback in their last four games overall.

Both Pella Christian teams return to action Tuesday night at Indianola.
