On a night where Grinnell was looking for a signature Little Hawkeye Conference win at home, the Pella Christian boys played one of their most complete games of the year to earn a 68-53 victory, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Close after one half, Pella Christian rode an 8-0 run to begin the 3rd quarter, punctuated by Kenden Veenstra’s dunk to snag momentum, a double digit lead, and a highlight-filled road win. Head Coach Larry Hessing says he wanted the team to pick up the pace against the Tigers’ defense in the 3rd quarter.

“We challenged our guys at halftime to beat that zone, beat their defenses back, and get out and run–that’s something that we’ve been working on over break,” Hessing says.

Pella Christian was led by 19 points on five three-pointers from Levi Jungling, 18 points from David Kacmarynski, and eight from the aforementioned Veenstra. The Eagles are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Little Hawkeye.

PC’s girls fell behind early when Grinnell had a 15-0 run after an early Eagles lead in game one of the doubleheader, and lost 65-50. Kaley Wilson had the hot hand shooting in the second half, with six shots from beyond-the-arc and 20 points and was part of an 8-0 run to end the 3rd quarter to pull it to within 12. The Tigers were able to pull away in the 4th quarter. Pella Christian falls to 6-3 and 1-3 in conference play.

The Eagles boys and girls travel later today for a doubleheader make-up against Norwalk, with first tip for the girls game at 6:15.
