After running the first round of the gauntlet that is the Little Hawkeye Conference, Pella Christian returned to same-class competition in a Saturday evening doubleheader sweep against rival Des Moines Christian, as heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

Pella Christian’s boys earned a fast-paced 91-82 victory in what was their highest scoring game of the season, that saw both teams trading big buckets for all four quarters.

Head Coach Larry Hessing tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his team showed incredible balance, with solid performances from multiple players, including Jackson Flagel (eight points, four rebounds), Kenden Veenstra (six points, six boards), and Alex Pringle (seven points).

But no one had a bigger night than Levi Jungling in what Coach Hessing described as a “spectacular” game, as he dropped 31 points. David Kacmarynski dropped 20, and five other players scored six or more.

The Eagles girls rode a 24-2 run after the halftime break on their way to a 59-39 victory. Pella Christian was led by 20 points from Kaley Wilson, who nailed five three-pointers, and the teams snagged 11 steals overall. Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen was impressed with their defensive intensity, which led to the big pull-away quarter.

Pella Christian’s girls are 9-5 and off until Friday at Oskaloosa, and the boys are 10-1 and stay out of conference Tuesday on the road at West Marshall.
