Four-ranked teams are set on a collision course tonight as Pella and Pella Christian face each other for the second time this year.

No. 7 in 2A Pella Christian’s girls are hoping to close the gap against the No. 1 in 4A Lady Dutch after an early second-half run allowed the girls in green to pull away the first time the two met in December.

Pella Head Coach Jerod Garland says after a difficult two-game stretch and with Indianola looming again Friday, they can’t afford to take the Eagles and their athletic squad lightly.

The Eagles and Little Dutch boys are vying for conference supremacy, as No. 3 in 3A Pella holds 1st place in the Little Hawkeye by one game over No. 1 in 2A Pella Christian, the only team Coach Mark Core’s team has lost to this season.

Over the past 16 years, the Little Dutch hold an 18-15 advantage over their neighbors on Eagle Lane. But Pella Christian might have a bit of history on their side if they plan to pull out the season sweep — despite how close their head-to-head record is, only twice since 2001 have the Dutch and Eagles split their series in a given year.

Coverage from Pella High School for Pella vs. Pella Christian basketball begins at 6 p.m. live on 92.1 KRLS, kniakrls.com, and the free KRLS mobile app, with Andrew Schneider and Trevor Castle calling the action.
