Senator Amy Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS News she is focusing her efforts early this session on a bill to help schools deal with the burden of transportation costs.

Sinclair says many rural schools have significant costs just to get their students to their doors, as the expense of fuel, bus drivers and maintaining safe transportation mounts. Sinclair wants to level the playing field for the Iowa students and their schools. She says her bill has support from senators in rural counties and she is working to help those from urban areas understand how important assisting schools with these costs is. In it’s current form the bill would weigh transportation costs into the disbursement of supplemental state aid monies, but Sinclair says she is afraid that method may have a negative impact on local property taxes and she does not want her bill to adversely impact property owners in rural school districts.
