A local group of men aiming to make an impact at non-profit organizations throughout Marion County presented their largest-ever check yesterday.

Christian Opportunity Center received $4300 from the Red Rock Chapter of 100+ Men on a Mission. COC Executive Director Rod Braun tells KNIA/KRLS News they will use the funds to help ease the transition out of sheltered employment over the next year.

“We did some brainstorming about what would be a good way to use this gift and really do something significant for people with disabilities,” Braun says. “So what our vocational staff came up with was we’ve got all this people trying to find jobs in community businesses and interviewing, let’s develop a wardrobe bank or something where people can borrow nice clothing for interview purposes, and it should facilitate their ability to find good jobs at community businesses.”

Lynn Roose with 100+ Men on a Mission says they have been growing in their first year, and he hopes more men come to support their group to help the impact they have on the area community.

“Our passion is to serve others, and this is just one, small way.” he says. “It’s just sharing the passion we have, the purpose of our group, and continuing to share that with others to help our group grow.”

In the first year of the organization, they’ve donated a total of $14,000 to COC, Pella Food Shelf, Helping Hands of Knoxville, and Backpack Buddies in Knoxville.
