Homecoming ended with an exclamation point for the Pella Christian boys’ basketball team on Friday. Levi Jungling’s lay-up with two seconds left gave the Eagles a dramatic 51 – 49 win over Grinnell, in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

PC led by as much as ten in the first half, and the two teams were never separated by more than five points the rest of the way. With about a minute left and the game tied, the Eagles held onto the ball looking for some kind of opening, and finally, Alex Pringle found a cutting Levi swooping to the hoop for the game-winning bucket. Coach Larry Hessing says even amidst the multiple timeouts that were called on that final possession, the winning play was not in the original design.

“Alex Pringle is really good at putting the ball floor,” Hessing said. “He put the ball on the floor, and Levi made a great back cut. I didn’t draw that play up. That’s just those guys make a play, it was a great play.”

David Kacmarynski led all scorers with 16 points as the Eagles improve to 14 – 4 on the season. They’ll play at undefeated Van Meter tonight.

Grinnell’s girls stormed out to a 47 – 17 halftime lead before taking down the Eagle girls 71 – 49. Morgan Fopma scored a team-high 13 points off the bench, Mary Kate Bandstra added 11, and Kaley Wilson dumped in ten. They fall to 12 – 7 on the season, and they are off until Tuesday to play host to Dallas Center – Grimes.
