Pella High’s boys’ basketball team got back to basics and won the Little Hawkeye Conference title last night by taking down Oskaloosa, 68 – 63.
Pella built an early 13-point lead, but Oskaloosa chipped away in the second half, using outside shooting and impressive rebounding to get them back to within three. The Little Dutch closed the game by limiting the Indians’ opportunities and making clutch free throws of their own.
Donovan Holterhaus led the charge with 19 points, and Ryan VanWyk put in 16. In his return to the line-up, Drew Pringle also had eight points and some key assists down the stretch in big spots. VanWyk says that having Pringle in the game helped their offense click.
The girls had an easy time with the Indians, pulling off a 76 – 27 victory. The Lady Dutch went up 27 – 2 after the first quarter with intense defense and transition buckets. Kiara Bradley and Katie Vander Molen dropped in 16 points apiece to lead the team in scoring.
The regular season concludes Friday for Pella High when they head to Dallas Center – Grimes.
