The Pella High boys basketball team can clinch the outright Little Hawkeye Conference championship tonight as part of a doubleheader at home against rival Oskaloosa.

At 10-2 in the league, the Little Dutch have already locked up at least a share of the title. The worst they could finish is 10-4, and Pella Christian, Newton and Dallas Center-Grimes are all tied for second place with four losses.

A win tonight would make it an insurmountable gap. However, Coach Mark Core says it’s not going to be easy.

“They’re talented at every position and they have guys that come off the bench and play. That was one of our one possession wins, as the first trip through the conference were all one possession games. We hope to come out and play really well tonight, but I’m sure that Oskaloosa is going to bring their “A” game.”

Before the Pella boys get their chance to clinch the LHC, the Pella girls will take on the Indians, with their sights still set on second place.

Undefeated Indianola has clinched the girls title, and Pella and Grinnell are tied for second with three losses each. However, the Tigers must play the Indians tonight.

It’s senior night tonight at Pella High, and opening tip of the girls game is set for 6:15. Join Cory Houser and Brian Vande Lune for the live play-by-play on 92.1 KRLS.
