With a win tonight over Newton, the Pella High boys basketball team would clinch at least a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference championship. The game is part of a girl – boy doubleheader at Pella High School.

When the two schools met nearly a month ago, the Pella girls started slowly put pulled away for a blowout victory.

It wasn’t as easy for the boys, who won 84-83 in overtime when the Cardinals missed a free throw at the end of regulation that would have won the game and another free throw at the end of overtime that would have extend it to double OT.

Coach Mark Core says that the Cardinals are very talented and will pose another big challenge tonight.

“They’ve got two outstanding perimeter players – guys that can really shoot it, guys that can handle and take it to the basket. And then they have a number of role players that complement the two main players – some decent guys inside, some guys who can set screens and help move the basketball and keep the offense flowing.”

Tonight’s doubleheader starts at 6:15 at Pella High School. Join Trevor Castle, Brian Vande Lune and Mike Buccheit for the live play-by-play, beginning with pregame at 6:00, on the KRLS 2 stream on your computer or mobile app.
