For the second straight game, the Pella Christian girls basketball team dug itself a hole it couldn’t get out of, eventually falling to Dallas Center-Grimes 53-31. The Eagle boys held on the in the nightcap to win 75-72 in a doubleheader heard live on KRLS 2.

After P.C. jumped out to a 3-0 lead on its first possession on a Cailey Terpstra long ball, the Fillies scored the games’ next 9 points, and Pella Christian never got within one possession the rest of the way.

Isabella Baugh, Brooke Mitrisin and Terpstra all scored eight points to lead the Eagles, who fall to 12-8 on the season and 5-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

The Pella Christian boys had the a hot start in the boys game, eventually building a 35-23 lead at halftime.

A trapping half court defense and an aggressive attacking offense helped the Mustangs come back, pulling within 2 with 3.7 seconds remaining.

Alex Pringle, who made 9 of 12 free throws on the night, made 1 of 2 on his last trip. DC-G’s Trevor Grove gobbled up the rebound, dribbled past half court, and flung up a game-tying attempt that clanged off the backboard and the left side of the rim giving P.C. the victory.

Kenden Veenstra was high man for the Eagles with 18 points, Levi Jungling added 16 and David Kacmarynski scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Pella Christian improves to 16-4 on the season and 9-4 in the LHC. They’ll play Newton for 2nd place in the conference when both the girls and boys head north to take on the Cardinals in the regular season finale tomorrow night.
