Three area wrestlers with runner-up finishes highlight a strong performance from area wrestlers on championship saturday at the Iowa State High School Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
Egan Lickiss of Indianola in class 3A finished in 2nd place in the heavyweight division, class 2A’s Xavier Miller at 145lbs gave three time state champ undefeated Iowa State commit Ryan Leisure from Clear Lake everything he could handle but came up just short to finish at runner up, and Pleasantville’s Chaz Clark for class 1A also finished at runner-up in the 220lb bracket.
Rounding out other finishes for area wrestlers, in class 3A for Indianola 113lb grappler Kobey Pritchard finished in 4th, Connor Sexton at 120lbs finished in 7th, 132lb wrestler Lance Runyon finished in 3rd place, and Kade Kolarik at 170lbs finished in 8th. Keegan Poole at heavyweight for Pella ended up with a sixth place finish.
In class 2A, PCM wrestler Lucas Roland at 160lbs ended up with a win by fall to claim a 5th place finish, while Knoxville grappler Matthew Landsberger fell in a close 3-2 decision and ended with an impressive 4th place finish at the podium.
Rounding out area wrestlers in class 1A all from Pleasantville, 152lb Sawyer Phillips got and 8th place finish in his senior season, Griffin McBride at 160lbs finished in 6th place, while heavyweight Will Anthony also fought hard for a 6th place finish.
