Shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday evening an accident occurred at Highway T-17 between Highway 92 and McKimber near the Durham mine that involved an anhydrous ammonia tank.

The tank came loose from a tow vehicle and rolled on its side into a ditch causing the tank to leak. The highway was closed for approximately three hours while hazmat crews cleaned up the scene. Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson tells KNIA/KRLS News one house was evacuated as a precaution. The Marion County Hazardous Materials team assisted the Clay Township Fire Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s office at the scene. The hazmat team was able to safely stop the leak and the tank was removed from the ditch by 10 pm and the highway opened.
