Representative Greg Heartsill and Senator Amy Sinclair held two legislative forums on Saturday.

The first forum took place at City Hall in Monroe and the second at Smokey Row in Pleasantville. Both legislators opened the forum discussing what legislation they had been working on the previous week. The opening statements were followed by questions from the audience with questions covering such topics as the proposed dismantling of the Des Moines Waterworks, the bottle redemption bill, the 20 week abortion ban bill and reforms to the workers compensation bill. Megan Suhr of Knoxville, who attended the forum in Pleasantville, exchanged words with Senator Sinclair during the forum regarding the 20 week abortion ban bill. Suhr told KNIA/KRLS News she believes the bill ties the hands of young women in our communities and is unnecessary. The state budget was another topic brought up during the forum. Representative Heartsill stated that the revenue projections for the fiscal year 2017 budget is short of estimates by $131 million dollars. Senator Sinclair added that even with the shortage the state is still expected to see a 2.7% increase in revenue from the previous year.
