Earlier this past week, Melcher-Dallas Girls Basketball Coach John Suntken took his girls to the state tournament. The trip was two-fold. First he wanted to watch the team his brother who is a coach, at Pocahontas Area. Another is to show his team what it takes to be a great player. Suntken told a story his brother related to him during Melcher-Dallas’s awards banquet recently about Pocahontas Area’s star player Elle Ruffridge. After a loss to Nevada this season…Ruffridge went into the gym the next day and shot 1,000 three pointers making around 800. Suntken’s point for his team was what price are you willing to pay for greatness. Melcher-Dallas finished the season one-and-19.
