This is Iowa Severe Weather Awareness week.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Kelsey Angle with the National Weather Service says this week is meant to remind citizens about how to stay safe during dangerous storms.

Angle says they key on three areas when it comes to hazardous weather during the spring and summer, and issue advisories in advance of systems passing through for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods.

He says a warning is issued when a storm poses immediate danger to a given area.

KNIA/KRLS will break into live coverage any time any portion of Marion County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning, and stay on the air until the threat passes.
