An extremely young Pella Christian girls basketball team went just 8-15 in 2015-2016, and that record jumped to 14-9 this year, a 6 game improvement.

Coach Kevin Van Maanen says that a year more experience against top-notch competition proved beneficial for his squad.

“When things didn’t go quite our way, we didn’t just fold – we actually battled back this year. We played some very good teams and battled back against them, so that was some very good growth. Now we need to take the next step, improve upon that, and try to win the big games next year.”

Pella Christian loses two seniors – Cailey Terpstra and Brooke Mitirisin – but will return seven underclassmen that saw varsity minutes.

We’ll have more with Kevin Van Maanen during his season wrap-up interview this morning on the Knoxville HyVee Radio Coaches Corner, which airs from ten to noon on KNIA & KRLS.
