The South Central Regional Airport Agency held their first quarterly meeting of the year Tuesday evening.

They reappointed Jim Hansen as the chair and Jim Barnes as vice chair, as well as reviewed their 2017-18 fiscal year budget. The board also heard an update about the ongoing Federal Aviation Administration’s environmental assessment review, which has almost been completed.

Mahaska County Engineer David Shanahan also received clarification about plans for the disconnection of 220th Street, and it seems the FAA will plan to build a service road extended around the location of the runway to accommodate farmers who said they would otherwise have to use Highway 163.

A local pilot also expressed his concerns with the plans of the current proposed regional airport during an open forum at the beginning of the meeting.
