In the latest estimates released by the Iowa Data Center show a slight decline in population in Marion County and in much of the surrounding area.

According to the 2016 population estimate, Marion County has seen a 0.4% decrease since 2010 Census Data, with 33,189 people. It remains the 22nd most populous in the state of Iowa.

Jasper and Mahaska Counties showed slight decline as well, with drops reported under one percent.

Among the fastest growing counties both in the area and in Iowa are Warren and Polk, with a 7.5% and 10.1% increase over the seven-year trend respectively.

Monroe at 1.3 % and Lucas at 2.8% have seen the sharpest decline in the region.
