With a 5-3 overall record, the Pella Christian girls soccer team has crept into the class 1-A rankings, and is just one win away from matching its victory total from all of 2016.

The #15 Eagles also did something earlier this week that they haven’t done in more than two years – win a Little Hawkeye Conference game.

The arrow is definitely pointing up for the Eagles, and coach Mike Buchheit gives credit to his players who have stuck it out during times when the losses heavily outnumbered the wins, and even recruited their friends to come join them.

“Every girl that they convince to come join our program, each time you hope that who they bring along is a little faster, a little more athletic and maybe they have a little more soccer skills. With that, you get more pieces and pretty soon that puzzle starts to look like something you can put together with four corners and all the pieces in the middle that you need.”

Pella Christian returns to the pitch Monday with another Little Hawkeye Conference matchup at Grinnell.
