It was a banner day for many local track and field teams at Pella Christian’s annual invitational Tuesday.

Pella, Pella Christian, PCM, Pleasantville, and Melcher-Dallas were among the field of ten central Iowa teams competing on Eagle Lane.

The Lady Dutch dominated the field among the girls with a team score of 215, followed by Pella Christian in 3rd at 101, and Pleasantville at 8th with 33. Pella earned 1st place finishes in 10 of the 19 events; Pella Christian’s Lizzy Van Maanen was tops in the discus and Morgan Fopma was 1st in the high jump and 400 meter hurdles.

PCM’s boys came within a few points of taking home the crown at 134.33 team points, with Lynnville-Sully taking the top crown. The Mustangs first place finishes included Preston VanWyke, Chris Ellens in the 32000, and the 4×100 meter relay, with seven other top three finishes. Pella’s boys were 3rd at 121, with top place honors, including 1-2 finishes in the 1600 meter with Nick Bernhagen and Blaise Winegardner and in the shot put with Tyson Wassenaar and Nick Dejong. The Eagles were 5th as a team at 84, as Eddie Pringle took the crown in the 200 meter and numerous athletes shaved seconds off of their times. Pleasantville was 6th at 72.33 points as well.

Eagles Head Coach Keith Anderson says he was happy to see many of the times posted by Pella Christian athletes on their home track.
