A recent push at the Iowa State Senate to advance a medical marijuana bill has gathered attention this week.
Senate Study Bill 1190, labeled The Compassionate Use of Cannabis Act, was approved on a 3-0 subcommittee vote Wednesday morning. Senator Amy Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS News there has been sound data that shows the current law has been successful for patients with epilepsy. The current law enacted in 2014 is set to sunset in July of this year. Senate Study Bill 1190 would allow patients with a range of medical conditions to obtain a medical cannabis registration card after receiving written approval from a doctor. The card would enable a patient to obtain medical marijuana from a dispensary in Iowa. It would legalize the production and distribution of medical marijuana in Iowa and would legally reclassify marijuana under state law.
