For the third straight year, it took extra soccer to settle the score between rivals.

Pella Christian’s girls knocked off Des Moines Christian in a 2-1 thriller Monday night in Urbandale. With 86 seconds remaining in the extra period, Cailey Terpstra squeaked a ball past the Lions’ goal keeper to complete the victory with an unassisted goal.

Des Moines Christian pushed ahead in the 51st minute after a defensive battle. Pella Christian’s Laura DeZwarte tied the score on a breakaway with 13 minutes left in regulation.

The Eagles are 1-0 and will have their home opener in a doubleheader with the PC boys against Centerville Thursday.
