The Pella Christian girls and boys soccer teams had little trouble in their first home doubleheader of the year, with the Eagles girls winning 10-nil in a mercy-rule match and the boys claiming a 9-nil victory yesterday.

The ladies in maroon finished the first contest in the 45th minute with a Bekah Horstman goal. Senior Cailey Terpstra had two scores of her own, and tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was great to see other girls take advantage of opportunities.

“It was awesome to get other girls goals and it was just a really fun game,” she says.

It’s the first time since Pella Christian rebooted their girls soccer team that they’ve had a mercy rule win. Laura DeZwarte had a hat trick as well.

The Eagles boys had four goals from Sam Brouwer and two from Isaac Vermeer in the nightcap. Head Coach Gerrit Brouwer says it was a slow start, but he was pleased with how they finished.

“We continue to work on the details, I wasn’t really satisfied with the way that we came out in the first 20 minutes,” he says. “Then we started pulling things together, we talked through some things at half, and actually that second half, I told these guys, was beautiful.”

Pella Christian’s girls are 2-0 and will take on Pella Tuesday, the boys are 3-0, and they next travel to Des Moines Christian Monday.
