Seventh graders at Pella Middle School spent the academic year raising funds for numerous charitable organizations.

At an assembly today, students in Kristin Schulz’s social studies class donated approximately $3000 total to five non-profit organizations, including Care Bags 4 Kids, Safe Water International Ministries, Many Hands for Haiti, Make a Wish Iowa, and Launching Arrows for their upcoming special needs prom.

Students started the class by submitting a business plan to Community First Credit Union for a loan, which was approved. Volunteers then helped with a concession stand and other various projects throughout the year to pay off the debt and raise money for non-profit organizations to make a global impact.

Following the donations, the Pella Hy-Vee announced a $500 donation towards the Pella Middle School sound system after giving $2500 to the project last year. Additional contributions of $2500 from the Pella Schools Digital Services department and $2200 from Culver’s in Pella will allow for completion of the speaker upgrades in the gym.

Tune in to Let’s Talk Pella Monday to hear from the students involved in the donation project.
