As Mark Core leaves the Pella High boys basketball program from the same job at Des Moines East, he says that the future is very bright for the Little Dutch.

Core says that whoever the new coach is will inherit talent all the way down the system into middle school.

“Getting kids to buy into, okay, if you’re a senior, buying into guys who are juniors. Or if you’re an eighth grader, realizing that those guys in seventh grade can make you better when you’re a senior. So getting the different classes to cooperate with each other and buy into the idea of buying as good as they can possibly be – I think that’s a huge challenge. Getting the kids to improve athletically, that happens in the weight room, and then obviously they need to play some basketball.”

You can hear more from Coach Core when he joins us for a look back on his time at Pella on today’s Knoxville HyVee Radio Coaches Corner at 10:00.
