Thursday’s rain may have slowed down the times but Central College men’s track and field junior Mark Fairley outwitted his opponents to secure a spot in Saturday’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Fairley snuck in as the 19th qualifier of the 20-man field by running a time of 9:12.07 a week ago. He clocked in at 9:18.61 during the prelims yesterday, finishing third in his heat and qualified fourth of 14 finalists.

Meanwhile, Dutch decathlete Ryan Kruse struggled in the first five events yesterday, and he’s in 19th place out of 20 competitors entering the final five events today.

In other action today, men’s high jumpers Logan Mulford and Will Daniels will compete this afternoon, and Hope Heitman is competing in the 400 meter dash.
