A Florida resident visiting Pella faces multiple charges stemming from an incident occurring at the Oskaloosa Street Branch of Pella’s Midwest One Bank Thursday.

Courtney McCaffrey, 30, has been charged with identity theft, 2nd degree theft, and eluding, all class D felonies, as well as forgery, 5th degree theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, and reckless driving.

At 11:22 a.m., Pella Police Communications received a telephone call from the bank regarding a female attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Police say McCaffery left the bank and eluded Pella Police for a short period of time from Clark Street to Highway 163 to Washington Street, and eventually back on Highway 163. Pella officers eventually located her and a brief pursuit ensued. She voluntarily stopped her vehicle on Highway 163 near mile marker 41, and was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigating officers found out McCaffery had altered her appearance and presented a stolen and forged check to the drive-thru teller. She is also accused of possessing stolen identification credentials and drug paraphernalia at the time of the offense.
