The Knoxville School Board met in special and regular session on Monday.

The board first met in a special session meeting to hold student reinstatement hearings. During the special session the board approved the reinstatement of three students to the Knoxville Community School District effective June 5th.

Following the special session the board began their regular session meeting with School Board President Andrew Schmidt saying kind words about former School Board Member Mike Helle following his sudden resignation. Schmidt says, Helle has done a lot for Knoxville schools including being an advocate for students, teachers and administrators. Schmidt adds, Helle was an advocate for public schools and gave a lot of time to public service.

The board then approved the publishing of the vacant seat in which the board plans to fill with former candidate Dawn Rankin at the next school board meeting on June 12th. Next the board watched a presentation on the high school band trip to Nashville and approved a dance team fundraiser of a free will donation garage sale on June 3rd. Next the board approved the graduation list for Knoxville High School, approved teacher leadership recommendations and reviewed the renewal of the Iowa Public School Insurance Program. The board then finished the meeting approving the certified budget amendment as well as the purchase of a new handicap accessible bus and a diesel fuel purchase agreement with FS Agriland.
