The Pella Christian Eagles came charging hard into the opening day of high school baseball and softball around the state. Both the baseball and softball teams shutout Pleasantville to begin the season.

The Eagles boys of summer won 10-0 in the 6th inning in our first live broadcast of the summer on KNIA3. Pella Christian was firing on all cylinders against a lot of new faces for the Trojans.

In his opening day start, Issac Vander Hart of Pella Christian struck out 14 Pleasantville batters in the complete game shutout, needing just 87 pitches. New Eagles Head Coach Jeff Bruxvoort told KNIA/KRLS Sports after the game reflected the effort Issac has been making during the offseason.

Vander Hart also had three hits, including an RBI triple and the game winning two-run double in the sixth. Scott Haveman was 1-2 with a two-run double and was hit twice, Lawson Bruxvoort went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Devin Haveman scored twice.

The Eagles girls won 5-0 to kickstart the 2017 campaign over Pleasantville. Emma Schnell, much like Vander Hart, took matters into her hands both in the circle and on the mound, hitting the go-ahead homerun in the sixth to break the 0-0 tie and tossing a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in seven innings of work. Chloe Dembski was 3-for-4 with a two-run double and Brooke Mitrisin was 2-for-4.

Both Eagles teams are 1-0, the baseball squad hosts West Marshall tonight, the Softball team is off until Friday to host Des Moines Christian. The Trojans are each 0-1, with the baseball team hosting Bondurant-Farrar and the girls heading to Chariton later tonight.
