Records continue to fall for the red-hot Pella Christian Girls Soccer team after a come-from-behind overtime thriller last night.

The Eagles were playing for a single season record 12th win and did so in dramatic fashion by coming from behind to win in overtime 3-2 against conference foe Oskaloosa.

In the 23rd minute, Sophomore Forward Lindsay Breon found Senior Cailey Terpstra open to go up 1-0. The score didn’t hold when PC gave up two quick scores in two minutes of play just prior to halftime. Coach Mike Buchheit says they had to refocus at the half.

“At halftime we talked about what we needed to do defensively to shut out Osky the next forty minutes and then we discussed offensively how we needed to stay true to our offensive game and not panic for 40 minutes and be deliberate about combination passes that would get this game tied,” he says.

The Eagles did so and in the 71st minute tied the score on a breakaway by Lindsay Breon. They then took it to overtime and with only two mins remaining Sophomore Mary Kate Bandstra scored the game winner in just her third game of the season and just days after a busy weekend at State Track.

After failing to win a Little Hawkeye Conference game since the program’s first two seasons since their reboot, PC finished tied for 3rd this year in the conference at 4-3, tying with DCG and Newton.

Pella Christian will play host to Des Moines Christian on Thursday’s Senior Night, when they seek another school record of six consecutive wins.
