By the time Pella High School students return for class in the fall, all that will be left of renovations at the building will be the finishing touches.
Pella School Superintendent Greg Ebeling says the facility will undergo the brunt of remaining work over the summer months.
“Now we’re really starting to work on some of hte outside work,” he says. “You’ll see concrete being ripped up and new concrete being poured, and that’s to get the outside lanes fixed up.”
He says the current bus loop in front of the school will eventually be dedicated to buses only, and the new area on the east of the building will be designated for parent pick up and drop off. The rest of the interior work will likely be complete in late August.
The Pella High School renovation is all the remains of more than $40 million in district wide improvements that started in 2013, including the remodeling of Pella Middle School, the new Career Academy of Pella and Lincoln Elementary building, as well as front entry upgrades to Jefferson Intermediate School.
