Pella High School students will have more schedule flexibility and a slightly longer day when they return to class in the fall.

Superintendent Greg Ebeling says the Pella School Board was briefed about the changes during their meeting this week, which includes a change to how the lunch schedule will work and an extended day of a few minutes in the morning and evening.

“The high school is going to implement something called a smart lunch period, and it will actually give students over the lunch period to interact and meet with teachers,” he says. “It will be a little bit different from the way it has been, so our lunch period will get extended, students will have an opportunity to eat and then go meet with teachers.”

“This will be a nice place where students, if they to retake a test, follow up on an assignment, or need to just check in and understand something, this gives them that opportunity.”

Ebeling says the program is modeled on a few other districts in the state in an attempt to maximize time for students and staff that are heavily involved in extracurricular activities or need extra assistance. Hear more from the latest Pella School Board meeting on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
