With all 19 sports factoring into the equation, the Central College athletics department finished runner up in the Iowa Conference All-Sports Championship Trophy standings.

The Dutch men earned a second-place finish in the Elmer Hertel Men’s All-Sports Trophy while the women were third in the Marjorie Giles Women’s All-Sports Trophy.

Wartburg College took the overall title after winning the men’s and taking second in the women’s.

Nine points are awarded in each sport for a conference title, and the points are allocated in descending order so that the last-place team gets one point. Central’s men finished with 55.5 points while the women accumulated 44.8.

On the men’s side, the Dutch did not win a conference title, but had runner-up finishes in football, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.

The Central women’s golfers earned the school’s only conference title in 2016-17. The Dutch women were second in softball.

Overall, 12 Central teams finished in the top-four of the conference and 17 were in the top-five of their respective sport.
