Two runs were enough for the Indianola baseball team to win two games against Pella Christian to sweep the season series. Both games went 1-0, and the second was heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Both tallies for the Indians came in consecutive innings — the last frame of game one in inning number nine and in the first inning of game two after a hit-by-pitch, stolen base, and throwing error allowed the lone run to score on a sacrifice fly.

Scott Haveman and Mac Sarver both pitched brilliantly in the two starts for the Eagles, with each giving up no earned runs in six innings of work, due in large part to the solid glove work of the defense behind them. Head Coach Jeff Bruxvoort tells KNIA/KRLS Sports both outings were impressive, especially given the offensive ability of Indianola.

The baseball team drops their 8th game in the past ten contests to fall to 10-14 and 5-10 in the conference.

Pella Christian’s softball team maintained their hold on the 1st place spot of the Little Hawkeye Conference after splitting with Indianola, losing 3-0 and winning 2-0 in their doubleheader, giving them the season series over the Indians.

The Eagles gave up two home runs in game number one for Emma Schnell’s third loss of the year. Pella Christian bounced back behind Natalie Vos in the circle, who earned a complete-game, two-hit shutout in her start and also scored the go-ahead run after back-to-back doubles from Vos and Ivy Terpstra in the 3rd.

Pella Christian’s No. 8 girls are now 17-4 and maintain first place over the 2nd-place Indians in the conference. The Eagles softball team travels to Oskaloosa for a double header tonight, while the boys are off until a single tilt with Grinnell Friday.
