A team featuring five representatives of the Tulip City soccer team came up just short Saturday in the East-West All-Star Cup girls’ soccer match.

The East squad was coached by Pella’s Mark Howard, and featured Katie Vander Molen, Ciara Buchheit and Kiara Bradley of the Lady Dutch, plus Cailey Terpstra of Pella Christian. They lost 4-3 in what Howard called a highly competitive game.

Newton’s Ryanne Rausch scored two goals for the East, while Vander Molen scored the other goal.

Howard told KNIA/KRLS Sports – “It was a great experience for me as a coach, and I think the players felt the same way and had a good time in a fun atmosphere.”

The match was the front end of a doubleheader, with the Des Moines Menace men falling 1-0 to Chicago FC United Saturday night.
