The 2nd Annual Helmets and Hotdogs event was held Friday afternoon.

The event featured different events for children to learn more about bike safety while having their helmets properly adjusted. Two bikes and helmets were also given away as well as summer fun baskets to local children. Then event included a “Protect Your Melon” demonstration as well as a bicycle safety course for children to practice riding safely on. Marion County Public Health also conducted a free hotdog lunch for all participants. Everett Hoye who participated in the safety course tells KNIA/KRLS News his favorite part of Helmets and Hotdogs was riding around all the cones. Everett also enjoyed the hotdogs “yep they’re delicious.” Representative Greg and Angie Heartsill, Iowa State Savings Bank, Knoxville Hospitals & Clinics, Knoxville Wal-Mart, Knoxville Public Library, Knoxville Recreation Center, Knoxville Fire and Rescue and Knoxville Police Department all contributed to the event.
