Norwalk swept Pella in a pair of softball shootouts last night, 11-10 and 12-10, while the Little Dutch and Warriors split a pair of lower scoring games in baseball, with Pella winning the opener 4-2 and Norwalk taking the nightcap 5-4.

In game one on the baseball diamond, Avery Van Zee’s two-run double broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Caleb Piersma tossed six-and-a-third innings on the mound to earn the win and he went two-for-three at the plate with a walk and a double. Joel Ruiter picked up the save by getting two outs after entering the game with runners on second and third in the seventh.

Van Zee ripped a two-run single to give the Little Dutch a 2-0 lead in game two, but the Warriors scored in each of the next three innings to take a 4-2 advantage. After Pella clawed back to tie the game, Norwalk reclaimed the lead with a run in the seventh. Pella loaded the bases in the bottom half, but couldn’t push across a tying tally. Piersma and Van Zee each had two hits for the Little Dutch.

In softball, the Warriors twice rallied from two runs down in game one, then staved off a seventh inning charge from Pella. Madison Parks had three hits, including two doubles, and five RBI, and Kinzi Van Wyk, Ally Almond, Claire Corbin and Destiny Brown each had two hits for the Lady Dutch.

In game two, Norwalk scored nine runs in the first two innings, but Pella battled all the way back to take a 10-9 lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Warriors rallied, however, for three runs in the seventh inning and kept the Lady Dutch off the scoreboard for the victory.

The Pella baseball team is 12-11 and 7-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, while the softball squad is 5-21 and 2-13. Both teams are off today, and will host Newton tomorrow night.
