Former Driver and Car Owner at the Knoxville Raceway Archie Ergenbright passed away Thursday at the age of 75. Ergenbright raced from 1960-1995. He was a car owner through the 90s and early 2000s at the Knoxville Raceway. While Ergenbright was never fortunate enough as a driver to enter victory lane, he was a very successful owner with his best season in 1997 when his car driven by David Hessmer won the 360 Nationals. Ergenbright also was named the Knoxville Raceway Owner of the Year that year, and was also named the 2000 Pappy Weld Memorial Award Winner. Ergenbright was also able to watch his son Ed win during the 2001 season at the Knoxville Raceway. He was also inducted in the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame in 2006. Racing was not the only thing he was known for as he served as a football and softball coach at Newton High School. Services are scheduled for Monday at 1:00pm at the Newton High School Gymnasium.
