Pella’s baseball team fell to Mount Pleasant Saturday afternoon, 6-5, then came right back with a 5-4 victory over Williamsburg.

In the first game against the Panthers, the Little Dutch couldn’t hold a three-run lead. Trailing 2-1 after five, Pella scored four runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Tyler Hillman, an RBI groundout by Landon Vander Leest and a bases loaded walk by Ben Akers.

Mount Pleasant tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a walk, a hit-by-pitch and two Pella errors, then won it in the eighth on a walk-off home run.

Vander Leest, Joel Ruiter, Jaden Rolffs and Kaden Meidema all had two hits for Pella as part of an 11-hit game.

Against the host Raiders, the Little Dutch jumped in front in the first inning when Vander Leest was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then added two more in the second on a single by Hillman and two in the fourth on an Avery Van Zee hit.

While Williamsburg scored twice in the sixth and twice in the seventh, Pella was able to hang on for the victory. Akers threw a complete game for the Little Dutch, who are now 10-9 on the season.

They return to Little Hawkeye Conference play on Monday night at home against Indianola, as does the Pella High softball team, who had the weekend off. You can hear the varsity game between the Lady Dutch and the Indians with Cory Houser calling the action on 92.1 KRLS, beginning at 7:30.
