In a game delayed for more than a half hour by lightning, the Pella Christian softball bats provided plenty of thunder in a 10-0 victory in five innings over cross-town rival Pella heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Lady Dutch had won the first game 5-1.

In that opener, Pella jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two innings before Lizzy Van Manen’s home run cut it to 3-1. The Lady Dutch then stretched the lead on an RBI double by Kinzi Van Wyk and an RBI groundout by Maddy Rempe.

That was more than enough for Madison Parks, who threw a complete game in the circle for Pella, outdueling PC ace Emma Schnell. Parks allowed one run on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Game two was scoreless into the bottom of the third when Schnell and Van Manen hit back-to-back homers.

With the Eagles batting in the fourth, rain and lightning came, delaying the game for the more than a half hour. When play resumed, the Pella Christian bats really woke up.

A five-run fourth included back-to-back homers by Chloe Dembski and Schnell, and the Eagles walked it off with three runs in the fifth, including a game-ending two-run single by Kirsten Vander Hart.

Natalie Vos threw a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Pella Christian is 15-3 overall and still in first place in the league at 8-2, while the Lady Dutch are 5-18 and 2-10 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Both teams are off this weekend.

You can hear from Pella Christian head coach Karen Harrill and Pella coach Robin Llewellyn this morning on the Knoxville HyVee Radio Coaches Corner from ten to noon on KNIA & KRLS.
