Pella Christian used a seven run third inning to run-rule Knoxville in softball last night, 10-0 in five innings, in a game heard live on both KNIA & KRLS.

It was scoreless through two innings, then the Eagles broke through for seven runs on nine hits in the third.

The scoring started with Kirsten Vander Hart’s RBI single scored Chloe Dembski, then Sophie Howerzyl and Amanda Harrill followed with back-to-back RBI hits of their own.

Vander Hart said that after going quietly in the first two innings, she sensed that they were ready to break through the second time around the order.

VANDER HART ON HITTING
“It really motivates us because we understand and we see the pitcher and we really want to hit. So we push ourselves harder when we’re not hitting because we want to do better.”

Vander Hart was one of five Eagles to have two or more hits in the game. Emma Schnell set the pace with a four-for-four night, including two doubles and two RBI.

Schnell also combined with Natalie Vos for five innings of one-hit ball in the circle. Schnell struck out six, while Vos struck out one and neither issued a walk.

It was yet another tough game for the Panthers, who are now 9-8 on the season, and will host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tonight in South Central Conference play.
