Pella Christian’s undefeated start to the conference season continued on the softball field with a pair of blowouts against Grinnell on the road last night.

The Eagles won 11-1 and 13-4 in the doubleheader sweep.

In game one, Lizzy Van Manen cranked out two homers and the Eagles put up crooked numbers in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th to do all their scoring and end the game on a mercy rule.

After earning her sixth win in the circle in the first contest, Emma Schnell scored two runs and drove in three as the left fielder in game number two. Natalie Vos went the distance in nightcap as the pitcher, striking out five for her third win of the year.

The Eagles boys of summer split at the Grinnell sports complex, winning the first game 3-1 in eight innings and dropping the second 7-4.

Pella Christian broke a 1-1 in the top half of the final inning of their victory, scoring on a two-run error by Grinnell, with Wyatt Terpstra earning the W and closing the door on the Tigers for the final three outs.

After three scoreless innings to begin the nightcap, Grinnell busted through for four runs in the bottom of the 4th. Devin Haveman and Will Dembski each had an RBI in the sixth, but couldn’t pull any closer.

Pella Christian’s softball squad is 10-1 and a perfect 4-0 in conference play. The Eagles boys are 7-5 and 3-3 in the league. Both are off today and next travel to Dallas-Center Grimes for a JV/Varsity doubleheader on Friday. Hear live play-by-play of varsity action for the baseball team on 92.1 KRLS.
