A jubilant Pella Christian softball team was in high spirits after knocking off previously-undefeated Indianola in the first matchup between the programs.

The Eagles edged the Indians 1-0 in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella Christian scored their lone run on an error at shortstop on a ground ball by Chloe Dembski in the 3rd inning that allowed Ivy Terpstra to score after she reached on the game’s only extra base hit.

Dembski tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Terpstra’s two-bagger was the turning point of the close contest.

“Ivy did awesome, first of all, she had such a good hit and that really set the tone for the day,” she says. “We were all like, ‘you know, Ivy did that, we have to do this for her,’ because she had such a good hit.”

Emma Schnell continued her dominant start to the season, tossing a two-hit, complete game shutout to improve to 4-1.

Pella Christian’s baseball team was on the wrong end of their first matchup with Indianola, falling 6-0. The Eagles broke up Duncan Davitt’s no-hitter in the seventh. Isaac Vander Hart was the tough-luck loser, giving up one earned run in 4 2/3 innings.

Pella Christian’s softball team is 7-1 and 2-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, while the baseball team falls to 6-4 and 2-2 in league play. The softball girls host Colfax-Mingo tonight, while the boys are off until both teams travel to Grinnell on Wednesday.
