Pella Christian maintained its place atop the Little Hawkeye Conference softball standings with an 8-1 win over Grinnell, while the baseball team ended its losing streak with a 1-0 victory over the Tigers.

On the softball diamond, Emma Schnell allowed the first Grinnell batter of the game to score on a pair of first inning hits, but she allowed just two more hits over the final six innings.

Pella Christian’s offense tied the game in the second on a Lizy Van Manen homer, then erupted for four runs in the third and two more in the sixth on a Schnell long-ball.

Van Manen finished three-for-four, and both Brooke Mitirisin and Kirsten Vander Hart added a pair of hits.

Pella Christian is 19-5 overall and 12-4 in the LHC, and they’ll host a tournament today at the Pella Sports Park.

In baseball, Pella Christian played its third consecutive 1-0 game, this time coming out on top to snap a four game skid.

Isaac Vander Hart got the victory with six-and-two-thirds innings of shutout ball, but he was lifted before he could finish the complete game due to hitting his weekly pitch limit. Wyatt Terpstra got the final out for the save.

The lone run of the game came in the first inning when Mac Sarver drilled two-out single past the Grinnell shortstop to score Lawson Bruxvoort.

The Eagles are 11-14 on the season, 6-10 in the conference, and they’re off this weekend before they host Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday.
